School Council

School Council’s Purpose

The School Council’s purpose is to give pupils a say on how their school is run, to help to improve school life and to raise money for charity.

Meetings

School Council meets every week at Friday lunchtime. School Council members are elected by their peers with one member from each year group from Years 1 to 6. We change the members of School Council every term. Each year, one member of Year 6 is chosen to be the Chair of Council.

Ideas About how to Improve the School

The School Council has a system to get ideas on how to improve the school.  We also make suggestions about changes to the school rules and how we can follow the Healthy Schools Initiative.

We put up posters around the school with spaces for suggestions. We collect them in each week and put the ideas into consideration at our meetings.  Also, pupils can speak to their class School Council representative or to the Chair of School Council about their ideas.  If we get some really good ideas then we talk about it and decide if we want to try and raise money to include it at our school. An example of this is when we manged to get a friendship bench donated for the playground.

School Council members keep an eye on behaviour at playtime.

Fundraising

One of the most important purposes of School Council is to organise raising money for our chosen charities. More information about our charity work is available on our Community page.
