Children from Years 3 - 6 receive 1 hour of dance tuition per week during lesson time, as well as the opportunity to participate in an after-school dance club.
We encourage all children to participate in dance. As a school, we take part in the annual dance festival as well as putting on our own productions. In the past, our work has been selected for a gala performance at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham. We take part in an integrated dance programme in which Hopelands has been linked to a local special needs school, The Shrubberies.
The children are very enthusiastic about dance and enjoy the opportunity to contribute their ideas and choreography.
Drama plays a vital creative role in giving permission for students to play, extend their creative thinking processes, portray other characters and act out other stories than their own. Students work in pairs, groups and individually to promote a cohesive and interesting outcome. The children enter the Cheltenham Drama Competition on a regular basis and all students take part in end of term performances and a school play on a two year rota. Various Theatre trips are also organised throughout the year.
At the end of the academic year, an arts cup is presented as recognition of the importance of dance and drama within the school
