Welcome to “Friends of Hopelands”. We are a group of parents who form a representative committee and give our time and expertise to support the school in a variety of ways. Events and activities are planned that not only provide additional funds for the school but also play a vital role in strengthening the links between the home and school.
Our aim is to enrich the general education and lives of the children by providing many varied activities outside the school curriculum and throughout the year. We are always looking for new ideas for fundraising, so please feel free to give us your ideas for future events and feedback on past and present ones.
We look forward to running some successful and new events over the coming year and we hope to see you and your family and friends at these fun days and evenings. All monies raised will benefit the school and your children.

Achievements so far:
Over the years, Friends of Hopelands have been significantly involved in providing additional resources for the school. 2009 was a successful year and with the help of all the parents and children we raised a massive £4,600. This helped purchase a long jump pit, art display board, science books, trikes and a visualiser for Years 3/4 (which we are in the process of organising). We have great plans for 2010 and hope you will all participate and enjoy the activities organised.
Please visit this section of the site regularly for general updates and progress on events.

Planned Developments
Over the last year Friends of Hopelands have been busy organising and running events enabling us to raise those all important funds to help benefit our children. We would like to thank you for your continued support throughout the year.
We currently have a very healthy bank balance and are looking to build an outside school classroom behind the Sophie Hall during the Easter holidays.
The Department for Education and Skills confirms that high quality learning outside the classroom is a significant factor in raising standards and improving personal development.
"We believe every child and young person should experience the world outside the classroom as an integral part of their learning and development, complementing learning in the classroom. High quality education outside the classroom can stimulate and inspire; foster independence; aid personal and social development; and can often motivate reluctant learners. These experiences should be stimulating, safely managed and enjoyable, and contribute to meeting the needs of every child."
The proposed area is behind the Sophie Hall and extending from the Executive Cabin (please refer to plans attached kindly drawn up by Andrew Derrick). We (with the assistance of JR Building - parents of William and Jemima Ramsden) envisage building an extension from the Cabin using the same material and being of the same length and width (approx 4m x 4m and 3.5m tall) with decking throughout. The sides would be partly open and seating could either be fixed around the inside so children can lean against the panelling or consist of moveable seating to be placed wherever.
We feel that this "out-of-class learning environment" will be of benefit to all children, providing an alternative quiet area as well as shade and shelter at break times during summer and winter breaks.
