Sport and PE

Our aim is to achieve the highest possible standard in a range of sporting activities for each individual child, regardless of their ability.  We give all children the opportunity to take part.  Our objective is to improve a child’s mobility, flexibility, agility and endurance in a fun and stimulating environment. The children have two hours of physical education (PE) tuition plus and hour’s swimming lesson and an hour’s dance lesson per week.

In Key Stage 1, PE is taught by the class teacher and our PE specialist. Children are taught how to follow rules and how to move and play safely.  They learn how to work on their own and with others, working together in teams competing against others.

In Key Stage 2, we have an integrated system with numerous sports including athletics, cross country and gymnastics (full list below).  Children in Key Stage 2 have many opportunities to compete in local and county sporting events.  Our children have won the Small School Girls Cross Country Trophy in Tewkesbury for several years running and regularly take part in cross-school fixtures including athletics and lacrosse.

Each child has the advantage of being taught by a highly qualified sports specialist.  The wide range of sports offered enables the children a greater cross-section of skills and foundation work necessary for all top sports at secondary school.
